Artist Spotlight

Ruby Muse

Ruby Muse is an exciting, emerging alternative folk-rock outfit, based in Cambridgeshire, UK. Their work is original, classy and compelling. Between them the band have diverse influences, which results in some unexpected twists in the music and a highly distinctive sound.

According to Jools Heyes, lead singer and songwriter, "Everything's in continual development - we might embrace classic rock through latin-blues to modern experimental soul-folk and more, but we don't think about that, we just let the music lead us till we find songs that call up a deep response, that you can lose yourself in and find yourself in, all at the same time. That’s what it’s about."

In association with the Liquid Air label, a newly remixed and remastered 10-track album Ruby Muse ( rm remix ) will be available September 2006.

Kevin Buxton & Kontra Band

After a varied career in music that has included appearances on stage and radio, in 2004 Kevin teamed up with Kontra Band to create a highly individual acoustic music that fuses folk, roots and blues with percussion and ambient sound. Kevin (lead vocal, acoustic guitars, harmonica) fronts a band that is subtle and innovative, but also highly melodic and passionate.

They bring a wealth of diverse influences to his distinctive, finely crafted songs: Al Tait (vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin & bass) has gained enormous respect on the east midlands blues scene, while Paul de Gallier (vocals, percussion) and Trevor Timson (keyboards) add a kaleidoscopic range of musical colourings and styles. This is music that may not be easily classifiable, but it is enormously appealing.

Ideally suited to small, intimate performing spaces as well as club, theatre, and concert venues, the band can play virtually unplugged or, if necessary, supply a range of appropriate PA/equipment options.

Their first full length CD, Through Any Window, is now available.
